The multi-spot steam injection technology, developed by Shijiazhuang Refining Company in collaboration with China University of Petroleum, has recently been recognized as a significant scientific and technological achievement by Sinopec. This innovation is specifically designed for single-surface radiant oil refinery coking boilers and addresses long-standing operational challenges.
The technology integrates advanced multi-spot steam injection methods, optimized intermediate bridge wall design, and the addition of extra furnace tubes at the bottom. These improvements effectively tackle issues such as poor oxidation resistance of furnace tubes, low detection efficiency of wall temperature thermocouples, and suboptimal heat transfer performance in coking furnaces—problems that have hindered production efficiency over time.
By combining simultaneous steam injection control with precise regulation of the coke oven outlet temperature, the system significantly reduces steam consumption. As a result, energy consumption has dropped by 2.37 kg of standard oil per ton of raw material, while the yield of petroleum coke has decreased by 1.21 percentage points. At the same time, the thermal efficiency of the furnace has increased by 1.43%.
This breakthrough technology has already been successfully implemented in the 800,000-ton-per-year delayed coking unit at Shijiazhuang Petrochemical Company, demonstrating its practical value and effectiveness in real-world industrial applications. The success of this project marks a major step forward in improving the efficiency and sustainability of coking processes in the refining industry.
