In June, the automotive industry in the country experienced a slight correction in both production and sales compared to the previous month. However, the decline was much smaller than the one observed in May. From a production standpoint, truck and bus output saw a minor drop, while car production increased. On the sales side, both trucks and cars faced a decrease from the prior month, but passenger car sales rose slightly.
Year-over-year, the industry still showed robust growth in both production and sales. In June, total automobile production reached 419,900 units, with sales totaling 380,100 units, resulting in a production-to-sales ratio of 90.72%. Compared to May, production fell by 1.41%, and sales dropped by 4.06%. However, on an annual basis, production grew by 21.49%, and sales increased by 7.25%.
Looking at specific vehicle categories, truck production and sales were 94,200 and 107,100 units respectively, with a sales ratio of 113.69%. Compared to May, production and sales declined by 7.84% and 6.88%, but they still increased by 5.62% and 8.41% year-on-year. Passenger car production and sales stood at 215,600 and 167,300 units, with a sales ratio of 77.60%. Production increased by 2.50% from the previous month, while sales decreased by 5.84%, though both figures rose significantly year-on-year.
Light commercial vehicles saw production and sales of 910,100 and 105,700 units, with a sales ratio of 96.88%. Production decreased by 2.90% compared to May, while sales increased by 2.15%. Year-on-year, production grew by 34.11%, and sales by 10.08%.
From January to June 2004, cumulative automobile production reached 2.6771 million units, with sales totaling 2.536 million units. The overall production-to-sales ratio was 95.39%, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 27.10% and 24.15% respectively.
Among sub-models, heavy-duty trucks had the highest production and sales, with 24,600 and 28,800 units produced and sold, respectively. Sales exceeded production, with a ratio of 117.07%. Medium-duty trucks, however, saw a significant drop in both production and sales, with a sales ratio of 152.05%. Light trucks maintained a relatively stable performance, with a sales ratio of 99.78%.
On the passenger car front, large and medium-sized models showed strong growth, while light and micro-buses experienced mixed results. Overall, the passenger car segment continued to be a key driver of growth in the market.
Major automotive companies such as SAIC Motor, FAW, Changan, BAIC, and Dongfeng remained the top performers. While Changan saw a sharp rise in sales, the others experienced declines. Together, these five companies accounted for over 65% of total vehicle sales in June.
Overall, the auto sector in China demonstrated resilience and steady growth, despite short-term fluctuations. The data reflects a dynamic and evolving market that continues to show promise for future expansion.
