A citizen reported a fire at a vacant two-story building near the downtown train station in Northbrook on Monday night around 10:30 PM. Firefighters from the Northbrook Fire Department arrived on scene and found flames inside the structure located at 1856 Walters Avenue. They upgraded the alarm to a Code 4, indicating a working fire.
The initial response included Northbrook Engines 10 and 11, Squad 12, Tower 12, Ambulance 10, and Battalion 11, along with Glenview Truck 14. As the situation escalated, additional units were dispatched, including Deerfield Truck 20, Highland Park Squad 34, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Ambulance 52, and Wheeling Engine 42.
Firefighters quickly brought the main fire under control from the exterior, then conducted a thorough search of the building for any signs of extension or trapped occupants. Due to the prolonged response, a Box Alarm was issued to bring in additional units for relief.
Tim Olk and Larry Shapiro were on site and captured several photos of the incident. Their images show firefighters using hoses to attack the blaze, as well as emergency vehicles responding to the scene.
The fire is currently under control, and investigators are expected to determine the cause in the coming days. No injuries have been reported so far.
