The first unit on scene reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the building. A General Alarm was dispatched at 12:44 P.M. and upgraded to a Box Alarm, sending four engines, two ladder trucks, two medic units, and a Command Team to the scene. A total of nearly 25 firefighters from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District were on site, along with additional resources from neighboring departments. The first arriving crews stretched multiple hose lines and began extinguishing the fire while other personnel set up ventilation. Additional companies placed ladders around the structure, assisted with water supply, and conducted search and rescue. Two occupants were inside at the time and safely evacuated. The majority of the fire was under control within 40 minutes, but due to a gas leak, the fire continued burning until the gas line could be located and secured. Several emergency units remained on scene until around 5:30 P.M., performing salvage and overhaul. Power was cut off, and all units were deemed uninhabitable. No civilian injuries were reported, though two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the incident. The fire investigation team is still working to determine the cause, and more updates will follow as they become available. I responded to a box alarm at Lisle-Woodridge on Bittersweet Court in Woodridge.
Engine 52 arrived to heavy fire coming from the rear of a two-story, four-unit townhouse complex that measured roughly 50x100 feet.
When I got there, the main fire had already been knocked down, but there was a gas leak causing a fire in the back. All the responding companies used two handlines in the rear to contain the fire until Nicor arrived. It took about an hour and a half for them to get there, dig up the area, locate the gas line, and shut it off.
The box alarm companies included: Downers Grove Engine 5, Bolingbrook Engine 5, Lombard Tower 52, Naperville Tower ?, York Center Squad 77.
