This is from John Tulipano:

I responded to a box alarm at Lisle-Woodridge, specifically at 14 Bittersweet Court in Woodridge.
Engine 52 arrived on scene and found heavy fire coming from the rear of a two-story, four-unit townhouse complex that was roughly 50 by 100 feet.
When I got there, the main fire had already been knocked down, but there was a gas line leak in the back of the building. The crews used two handlines from the rear to contain the fire until Nicor could arrive. It took about an hour and a half for them to get there, dig up the area, locate the gas line, and shut it off.
The box alarm companies included: Downers Grove Engine 5, Bolingbrook Engine 5, Lombard Tower 52, Naperville Tower ?, and York Center Squad 77.

Structure Fire, 13-16 Bittersweet Court, Woodridge
November 11, 2013

At 12:42 P.M. on Monday, November 11, 2013, the Lisle Woodridge Fire District received a 9-1-1 call from a resident reporting a two-story, four-unit multi-family home on fire at 13–16 Bittersweet Court in Woodridge. The first unit on scene reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the structure.

A General Alarm was dispatched at 12:44 P.M. and quickly upgraded to a Box Alarm, sending four engines, two ladder trucks, two medic units, and a command team to the scene. This brought nearly 25 personnel from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District, along with additional resources from surrounding departments.

Crews immediately stretched multiple hose lines and began suppression efforts while other units set up ventilation. Additional companies placed ladders around the building, assisted with hose lines, and performed search and rescue. Two occupants were inside at the time, and both exited safely.

The fire was mostly under control within 40 minutes, but due to a gas leak, the fire continued burning until the utility company could secure the line. Emergency units remained on scene until approximately 5:30 P.M. to perform salvage and overhaul work. Power was shut off, and all units were deemed uninhabitable.

Other departments covered stations that were left unstaffed during the response. There were no civilian injuries, though two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The Lisle-Woodridge Fire District’s investigation team is currently looking into the cause of the fire. No further details are available at this time. Updates will be provided as they become available. For more information, contact Bureau Chief Jim French at (630) 353-3030.
