The Fire Buffs of Illinois and the 5-11 Club held their muster at the Quinn Fire Academy on June 16th, drawing enthusiasts from across the region to celebrate firefighting history and camaraderie. The event was a vibrant showcase of vintage and modern fire apparatus, offering attendees a glimpse into the evolution of firefighting equipment over the decades.
One of the highlights was the impressive lineup of apparatus displayed outside the academy. Among them was an elegant Command Van 2-7-1, a 2007 Ford F-650 Road Rescue vehicle that stood as a testament to modern firefighting technology. This command vehicle was a standout piece, equipped with all the necessary tools for managing large-scale emergencies effectively.
Another notable attraction was a stunning 1977 Century Series American LaFrance engine, owned by John Carter. Known for its reliability and performance, this classic fire truck captured the attention of many visitors. Its sleek design and powerful capabilities made it a favorite among those who appreciate the artistry and engineering behind firefighting vehicles.
Also on display was a 1961 FWD engine from the Sauk Fire District in Wisconsin, owned by Gary Jensen. This historic vehicle represented the early days of fire trucks, showcasing how far the industry has come in terms of innovation and efficiency. Its presence at the muster was a reminder of the rich history that continues to inspire current firefighters.
Hillside Fire Department contributed two engines to the muster: Engine 402, a 2001 American LaFrance Eagle/3D model, and Engine 405, a 1975 American LaFrance Century Series. These two engines were placed side by side, providing a fascinating comparison between different generations of American LaFrance pumpers. The juxtaposition highlighted both the continuity and the advancements in firefighting technology.
A centerpiece of the event was a magnificent Ahrens Fox engine, loaned from the Fire Museum of Greater Chicago. This beautifully restored classic was a focal point, drawing admiration from all who passed by. It symbolized the enduring legacy of firefighting traditions and craftsmanship.
While these vehicles took center stage in the photos, other notable displays included a replica of LA County Squad 51 and a Chicago Ridge engine.
