“The electric car in the future is first and foremost an electric product. First of all, we must solve the electric problem of the car and solve its intelligent problem. The last solution is the consumption mode and market segmentation problem.” This is the chairman of Changjiang Automobile, Cao Zhong, At the 6th Global Conference on New Energy Vehicles (GNEV6) held on January 16, 2016, he said in an interview.

Around this meeting, the theme of "re-defining the automobile - the new model of new technologies and new ecology". Cao Zhong believes that electric vehicles are the perfect integration of the Internet, electric power, and automobiles. They are electrified products and intelligent products. The core of electric vehicles is batteries, motors, and electronic control systems. At present, the development of electric vehicles is mainly divided into three technical routes:

The first is hybrid power. That is, adding electric drives to conventional oil tankers, hybrid vehicles reduce the fuel consumption of vehicles and also meet the requirements of national laws and regulations, but increase the cost. This is an intermediate product for traditional vehicles to new energy vehicles.

The second is a modified electric car. Its approach is to simply replace the engine with an electric motor on the basis of a fuel vehicle, and still retain the complex mechanical transmission system of a conventional vehicle. This not only undermines the beauty of the traditional automobile’s mechanical maturity, but also fails to establish the intelligence of electric vehicles as electrification products. The beauty of technology.

The third is the development of electric vehicles. It integrates the powertrain of a conventional automobile (engine, transmission, driveshaft, axle) into a wheel-side (or hub) motor drive axle, and together with the core components such as the power battery system and electronic control system, constitutes an electric vehicle. The unique core technology system reduces the parts of electric vehicles by 30-40% compared with traditional fuel vehicles.

The pure electric vehicles developed by Changjiang Automobile adopt the technical route that is being developed. Currently, pure electric buses, China buses, commercial vehicles, logistics vehicles, and SUV passenger vehicles have been developed.

At present, during the transition process from traditional oil vehicles to electric vehicles in China's automobile enterprises, most of the technical routes chosen are hybrid power and conversion routes. The reason is that the traditional automobile industry has a strong production capacity. When the traditional car enterprises make the transition to electric vehicles, they hope to use existing production capacity and equipment to recover investment and delay asset depreciation.

The use cost of pure electric vehicles is only 1/10 of that of traditional cars. Electric cars save the maintenance cost of most traditional vehicles during the later period of use. Regardless of whether it is from the national strategic level or from the consumer perspective, the purely electric and positive R&D technical route is the only way for Chinese auto companies.
