The Daily Herald recently published a short piece highlighting the efforts of Wheeling firefighters and staff in collaboration with Operation Warm, as they provided free winter coats to children who couldn’t afford them. This heartwarming initiative aimed to ensure that local kids stayed warm during the colder months.
At Station 24, the fire department’s headquarters, firefighters distributed 100 U.S.-made winter coats to students from Wheeling Township Elementary District 21 on Saturday. The event was organized by the local firefighters’ union, but it also involved support from department leaders and school officials. Firefighter Emmett Gribbens, president of Wheeling Firefighters Local 3079, emphasized that while the union led the effort, cooperation from all parties was essential for its success.
Gribbens mentioned that the initial goal was to raise funds for 80 coats, but due to generous donations and community support, the number was increased to 100. He expressed pride in the partnership and the positive impact it had on the children and their families.
