Here's a message from Dave Weaver: September 15, 2018 – Elburn – Box Alarm House Fire at 42W826 Main Street Road. Video by Dave Weaver. A kind-hearted driver was traveling along Main Street Road just before sunrise when he caught the smell of smoke. He quickly located the source — smoke coming from the eaves of a single-story home. The man immediately called Tri-Com Central Dispatch and reported that the door was hot to the touch and no one was answering. There were also cars parked in the driveway. A General Alarm was sent out, and the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District arrived on scene, along with several mutual aid units from nearby areas. Upon arrival, the Elburn Battalion Chief decided to activate a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing even more fire crews from surrounding communities to assist. As the situation unfolded, the tension was eased slightly when a neighbor managed to contact one of the residents via phone. The resident confirmed that no one was home at the time of the fire. A fire investigation team arrived to determine the cause and origin of the blaze, which took about an hour and a half to fully control. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the family lost their four cats in the fire.
