The North Maine Fire Protection District recently received a piece of steel from the wreckage of the World Trade Center and officially unveiled it during a heartfelt memorial service held on Sunday, marking the 10th anniversary of the deadliest terrorist attacks in U.S. history. The artifact was carefully integrated into an existing 9/11 memorial located at the Ridgewood Cemetery on Milwaukee Avenue, adding a powerful new element to the site.
Tim Olk attended the event and captured several compelling photos that highlight the significance of the moment. His images show members of the North Maine Fire Department’s honor guard standing solemnly beside the newly unveiled memorial, honoring the memory of those lost on September 11, 2001.
The memorial itself is a touching tribute, featuring a section of steel recovered from the collapsed towers. It has been thoughtfully placed alongside granite benches that line a peaceful lake, offering visitors a quiet space for reflection and remembrance. This addition not only honors the past but also serves as a lasting symbol of resilience and unity.
