Viking Pump’s latest generation of pumps, available in sizes H-QS (steel and stainless steel), brings a range of new advantages that previous alloy pumps couldn’t offer—especially when it comes to sealing flexibility. These advanced pumps expand the number of sealing options available in a single unit while also cutting costs and reducing lead times. The bracket is a key component behind the casing, featuring a rigid cast-in foot for pump mounting. It houses the inboard shaft support bushing, the seal gland, and the outboard thrust control antifriction bearing housing. By integrating features from the existing 123A, 127A, and 724 Series™ pumps, Viking has introduced patented innovations, such as the ability to use either stuffing box seals or behind-the-rotor seals in one pump. This flexibility makes the new design more versatile and cost-effective. This means you get more performance for your investment! The new 123C and 127C Series™ models are not jacketed, but Viking also offers 223C and 227C Series™ models with jacketed U-Plus™ brackets. These allow steam or heat transfer fluids to be circulated, helping to melt solids like resins, pitch, or chocolate within the pump. These models can have jacketed heads without relief valves or include jacketed relief valves on non-jacketed heads. Stuffing box seals can be packed glands, O-Pro® Guard seals, component mechanical seals, cartridge mechanical seals, or cartridge multiple-lip seals—each with unique applications and benefits. Component mechanical seals are the most affordable and widely available, but they require careful installation to avoid damaging the seal faces. They come standard with flush lines from the discharge port to the seal area, which help remove solids and cool the faces. Cartridge-type mechanical seals are preassembled as a single unit, making installation easier in the pump stuffing box. The rotating part is set-screwed to the shaft outside the stuffing box, reducing the risk of damage during installation. Single or double cartridge seals can be adapted to API seal plans with barrier fluid to minimize fugitive emissions. Cartridge lip seals are also available, allowing individual lips to be replaced and lowering long-term maintenance costs. They perform well in challenging applications like pumping adhesives. Mechanical seals mounted directly behind the rotor were once only available on the stainless steel 4724 Series™ and cast iron 4124B Series™ pumps. Now, they’re available on all Next Generation models with U-Plus™ brackets, including Type 9 PTFE wedge seals suitable for corrosive liquids up to 25,000 SSU (5,500 cSt). The bearing housings remain similar to the original 123A/127A models, with threading that allows adjustment of rotor end clearance. This enables users to easily switch between low and high viscosity applications without losing efficiency or to compensate for rotor wear over time, maintaining pump performance without replacing the rotor or shaft. One of the main advantages of the U-Plus™ Bracket is its versatility. If one type of seal doesn’t meet user expectations for longevity or leakage prevention, it's easy to switch to another type of stuffing box or behind-the-rotor seal. These brackets can be retrofitted onto existing Viking 123A/127A/223A/227A pumps and share common mounting dimensions, ensuring compatibility and ease of upgrade.
