On Monday, January 4, 2016, firefighters from Des Plaines responded to a house fire at 441 Dulles Avenue early in the morning. Upon arrival, units observed heavy smoke coming from a split-level home. The incident was initially classified as a working fire and upgraded to a Code 4, but it was already under control before additional crews arrived. As a result, the extra units were able to return to their stations without being deployed.
The photos featured here were provided by the Des Plaines Firefighters IAFF Local 4211. They offer a glimpse into the challenging conditions faced by the crew during this winter fire. Several images show firefighters on the roof of the house, performing critical venting operations to manage the fire's spread. Others capture the intense scene on the ground, with crews working to contain the flames and protect the structure.
One photo highlights a firefighter rescuing a cat from the burning home, showcasing the dedication and quick response of the team. Additional images depict the garage area that was also affected by the fire, emphasizing the severity of the situation. The cold weather added an extra layer of difficulty to the operation, making the efforts of the firefighters even more commendable.
These images not only document the event but also serve as a tribute to the bravery and professionalism of the Des Plaines Fire Department.
