**ANAHEIM, Calif. – (BUSINESS WIRE)** – At SIGGRAPH 2013, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK) unveiled Autodesk FBX Review, a new standalone application designed for Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 8 users. This lightweight yet powerful tool enables professional artists and animators to conduct thorough reviews of a variety of 3D assets, such as intricate models, environments, and character animations.
"We've seen consistently that our customers need ways to accelerate project iterations while preserving high-quality assets that stay true to the original designs," said Chris Bradshaw, senior vice president of Autodesk Media & Entertainment. "FBX Review simplifies the asset review process, offering more flexibility for remote and distributed creative teams."
**User-Friendly Asset Review**
In today's workflows, artists often collaborate with multiple internal and external clients across different locations. With Autodesk FBX Review, any Windows user can easily view 3D assets without needing specialized 3D animation software. For instance, an artist working in Autodesk Maya can share an animation file with anyone who has FBX Review installed, allowing recipients to explore the assets using a comprehensive set of features.
FBX Review supports a broad range of open 3D file formats, including popular formats like .fbx, .3ds, and .obj, as well as .dxf, an Autodesk AutoCAD format. This flexibility empowers artists to work with their preferred 3D tools. Reviewers can toggle between various viewing options such as shading effects, animations, cameras, and lighting configurations within the Microsoft DirectX 11-enabled viewport. Available viewing options include:
- Static and Dynamic Tessellation
- Displacement and Vector Displacement Maps
- Skin Deformations and Animation
- Real-Time Shadow Maps
- Reflection Maps
- Light and Ambient Occlusion Maps
- Image-Based Lighting
- Ground and Sky Ambient Color
To evaluate animations and scenes, FBX Review offers intuitive controls that allow users to navigate through animation sequences and camera angles effortlessly. Users can play, pause, and scrub through animations smoothly, or view scenes with either the native cameras and lights from the original file or the in-app perspective and orthographic cameras.
**Mobile-Friendly Design**
With its mobile support, Autodesk FBX Review ensures that the production cycle remains uninterrupted even when users are away from their workstations. Built specifically for the Windows 8 platform, the mobile app mirrors the full feature set of its desktop counterpart but with a simplified touch-friendly interface. Features include a multi-view camera that allows reviewers to pan, rotate, or zoom into assets with ease. Animation playback and lighting controls are touch-sensitive, making it ideal for mobile devices. To run the app, you'll need Microsoft Windows 8 OS, 50 MB of disk space, 4GB of RAM, and a graphics card compatible with Microsoft DirectX 11 for optimal performance.
**Pricing and Availability**
Autodesk FBX Review is now available for free on the Windows Store for Windows 8 mobile devices and tablets, as well as Windows 7 and 8 desktops. You can download the app directly from the Windows Store or via Autodesk Exchange in the Autodesk Maya or 3ds Max store. For detailed system requirements, visit http://area.autodesk.com/fbxreview.
