SAN RAFAEL, Calif., September 22, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) today announced the launch of a groundbreaking new workflow that integrates two of its leading solutions, Navisworks and BIM 360 Model Coordination. These tools are widely used by architects, engineers, and construction teams to enhance project efficiency and accuracy. The newly integrated workflow strengthens Autodesk Construction Cloud by streamlining the entire model coordination process, including clash detection and issue management, within a unified platform. Customers can now leverage the exceptional capabilities of both Navisworks and BIM 360 Model Coordination to enhance construction documentation quality, save valuable time, minimize schedule risks, and reduce costly rework.

Before construction begins, Navisworks empowers general contractors to detect and resolve clashes and constructability challenges early on. BIM 360 Model Coordination enables design and trade partners to monitor and address issues during the model coordination phase. With this new integration, users can perform automated clash detection within BIM 360 Model Coordination and generate and assign issues seamlessly from either Navisworks or BIM 360. This enhanced workflow improves existing processes for Navisworks users while giving BIM 360 Model Coordination users the ability to conduct more detailed clash detection and analysis in Navisworks.
"With the combined capabilities of Navisworks and BIM 360, all project stakeholders—whether in the field or office—can now actively participate in issue tracking and resolution throughout the project lifecycle," said Nick Bobbitt, VDC Manager at Barton Malow. "This new approach transforms model coordination into a collaborative effort, making it accessible to team members who lack experience in clash detection and model navigation. This increased transparency adds significant value for our clients, empowering them to fully grasp project design, model development, and issue resolution."
### Empowering Everyone to Participate in Model Coordination
The integration between desktop-based Navisworks and cloud-based BIM 360 Model Coordination opens up opportunities for more project partners to engage in the model coordination process at any stage. Design and trade teams can instantly self-check their models using automated clash detection, while a BIM leader can allocate time and resources to tackle major constructability concerns. Additionally, an evolving dataset in Navisworks can be utilized to apply specific cross-disciplinary class tests to the latest design data.
For instance, when a structural team uploads a model to BIM 360 Model Coordination and detects a clash—say, between a stairwell and a basic wall—they can assign an issue to their team: "Wall incorrectly positioned in front of curtain wall—check structural integrity." The issue can then be tracked and resolved before being forwarded to the general contractor's VDC lead. The model can also be opened in Navisworks, where specific rules are applied and a user’s expertise considered to check for larger constructability issues. For example, a VDC manager might notice that the positioning of an air handling unit would hinder maintenance, necessitating plumbing and HVAC to reroute their systems. The manager could then assign issues directly to plumbing and HVAC partners from Navisworks, requesting a design fix—allowing the VDC manager to oversee the issue through to resolution entirely within Navisworks.
"To prevent the delays and additional costs associated with rework, construction firms must address design issues prior to construction commencing," said Sameer Merchant, head of product development at Autodesk Construction Solutions. "The integration between Navisworks and BIM 360—both of which are extensively adopted by construction teams—creates a new Autodesk Construction Cloud workflow that allows the entire model coordination process to be managed from a single solution within a common data environment. Autodesk is setting a higher standard for construction teams by improving the quality of the entire built environment, from design through operations."
