Hey everyone,
This just came in from Larry Shapiro. He mentioned that it's that time of year again when things seem to go up in flames pretty quickly. Apparently, there were several brush fires reported near the Union Pacific railroad tracks in Wheeling, stretching from 444 Carpenter all the way up to Lake Cook Road. At the same time, they got calls about other fires along Bond Street in the Long Grove Fire Protection District, which is near Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove. The Buffalo Grove fire crews were also dealing with fires close to the tracks as far north as Route 22.
The railroad immediately halted all train traffic through the area and had one train that had recently passed through stop for a thorough inspection.
Thankfully, all the fires were brought under control within about 90 minutes. Here are some photos from what appeared to be the largest fire, located behind 250 Carpenter Street, just south of Dundee Road.

It's incredible how quickly wind can spread a fire like this, especially during dry seasons. Hopefully, everyone involved is safe, and no major damage was done beyond the charred patches of land. Let's hope this serves as a reminder to be extra cautious with open flames and anything that could spark a wildfire.
