TRW Automotive Holdings Inc. (NYSE: TRW) has introduced a new cognitive security system that incorporates automatic emergency braking (AEB) and seat belt active control retractor (ACR) technology to enhance driver awareness. The warning function better constrains the occupant to the position protected by the airbag and provides automatic braking support.

TRW's cognitive intelligence security system is designed to enhance the occupant protection when the driving situation is dangerous, or to mitigate accidental injuries in the event of a collision. When working independently, the two systems use data from environmental sensors and vehicle dynamic sensors, respectively. One system automatically supports emergency braking without driver intervention and the other reduces the gap between seat belt and occupant's body. It is expected to be safe. Before the airbag is deployed, it helps to restrain the occupant in a protected position.

Through the integration of the two systems, a higher level of security can be achieved. The integrated system uses a medium-range radar and a scalable camera that collects information on the road ahead and traffic conditions independently. The radar can detect the range within 150 meters in front and the camera covers a closer but wider view to help monitor and distinguish the front object.

When the sensor detects an emergency situation, the driver will get a potentially dangerous warning through visual, auditory or tactile feedback. At the same time, the ACR pretensions the seatbelt and issues additional warnings to reduce the gap between the seatbelt and the body before the airbag is deployed. Constrain the occupant to a protected location. In addition, the system automatically activates a certain amount of brake pressure.

If the sensor detects that the collision is unavoidable, and the driver does not respond in time or responds, the ACR will start quickly before the collision, preventing the occupant from rushing forward as much as possible. At the same time, AEB activates the maximum brake pressure and ensures that the vehicle will be decelerated to the maximum extent when the occurrence of a crash accident is irreversible.
