Foton Cummins joint venture engines are set to enter mass production this month, marking a significant milestone for the collaboration. The first model to be equipped with these engines will be the OMARCO light truck. It has been confirmed that the assembly of the Cummins 3.8L engine-powered OMARCO light trucks will begin in the second half of this month, with an initial price exceeding 110,000 yuan. This launch represents Foton's first high-end light truck offering, signaling a new era in its product lineup.
According to an official from Foton Motor Marketing, the 3.8L diesel engine paired with the OMARCO is the first light-duty diesel engine introduced by Cummins globally. As a result, this model will not only be sold domestically but also exported as a global product. In addition to meeting domestic demand, Cummins-powered OMARCO trucks are expected to be available in 10 to 15 countries this year. The company aims to sell a total of 10,000 units both domestically and internationally in 2024.
The 3.8L Cummins engine meets Euro IV emission standards and is capable of being upgraded to meet European regulations in the future. It offers a fuel consumption reduction of 5% to 7% compared to similar models on the market, while also delivering a power increase of 10 to 20 kW. Looking ahead, the 2.8L Cummins engine is scheduled to enter mass production later this year and will also be integrated into the OMARCO line-up, further enhancing its performance and efficiency.
This development highlights Foton’s commitment to innovation and quality, positioning itself as a strong competitor in the light truck segment. With Cummins’ advanced technology and Foton’s local market expertise, the partnership is expected to drive growth and expand its presence in both domestic and international markets.
